Counterpoint Studio LLC, Dodge and Cox Mural Project
Color Services and Production Specialist
One of the more beautiful projects I have been fortunate enough to work with is the Dodge and Cox Mural for Counterpoint Studios in Oakland, Ca.
The mural is a collection of images taken with both film and digital cameras. The overlay of the images was a combination of multiple exposures with negative film cameras along with compositing in Photoshop.
For my part, this project was a technical exercise. The clients wanted the image printed on a textured surface so they chose Phototex, a specialized form of adhesive backed textile, to use as a substrate.
Since the Phototex was not a pure white surface, and the original image was not configured for it, I worked with the artists to produce an output that would be both representative of the colors yet maintain the levels of contrast and brightness that brought out the vibrancy of the artwork.
Separating the 18GB file into 11 panels for installation was a herculean task for the computers to process but once completed I was able to produce the artwork in such a way as to provide overlap and seam allowances that made the installation an immediate success the first time.
